Obituary for Helen Phelps
HELEN McGARRY PHELPS, 60, died peacefully at home on Saturday, December 14, 2013 after a short illness.
Helen was a Master Catechist teaching religious education at the Cathedral of the Assumption, the Catholic Community of St. Paul, and several other archdiocesan venues. She also served in the boards of the House of Ruth, the Nativity Academy at St. Boniface and served as a minister to women in prison.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Laverne Shipp McGarry.
She is survived by her loving husband of 33 years, Deacon Stephan Phelps; her father, John H. McGarry; brothers, John Richard McGarry (Debbie), Joseph McGarry (Beth), Scott McGarry (Tanya); her family at the Cathedral of the Assumption and her beloved Diaconate Community, especially the Ordination Class of 2008 and 2012.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Cathedral of the Assumption, 433 South Fifth, on Friday, December 20, 2013 at 10 a.m. Visitation will be Thursday from 2-8 p.m. at Ratterman and Sons, 3800 Bardstown Road. A wake service will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
