Obituary for parishioner, Bob Hill

John Robert "Bob" Hill, 93, of Fern Creek, formerly of Springfield, passed away peacefully in his sleep at 9:25 p.m. Sunday, May 31, 2015, at Baptist Health in Louisville, KY.

Bob was a beloved father, granddaddy and friend. He was born in Washington County on March 14, 1922. He served in the U.S. Navy during WW II for one year. He was a carpenter for 40 years with Barber Cabinet Co. in Springfield and a long time farmer. After his retirement he was an avid gardener, enjoyed watching the Cincinnati Reds and loved mowing his yard.

He as a devoted Catholic and a cherished member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Mt. Washington.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John William and Lucy Cambron Hill, his first wife, Lillian Keene Hill, who passed away at the young age of 35, his second wife, Beatrice (Mudd) Cambron Hill, four sisters, Elizabeth Ballard Hill, Rose Goosman Hill, Zitta Brill Hill, one brother, Joseph Richard (Joe) Hill and a granddaughter, Emily Catherine Wheatley.

Survivors include five children, Mrs. Doug (Pam) Hill of Greenwood, Ind., Mrs. Mike (Katie) Wheatley of Springfield, Ms. Carolyn Smith and Mrs. Joe Pat (Rose Marie) Taylor of Bardstown, Mike (Chris) Hill of Louisville, three step-children, Mrs. Ruth Ann (Gil) Humphrey of Shelbyville, Louis (Linda) Cambron of Louisville, Mrs. Louise (Randy) DeNardi of Salem, Ind., a brother, Ben Hill of Hampton, Virginia, 19 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He leaves to cherish his memory many members of the Thomas Filiatreau family.

His funeral mass will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, June 5, 2015, at St. Rose Catholic Church in Springfield with Rev. Rev. Anthony Chandler and Rev. Kevin McGrath, O.P. officiating. Burial will be beside his first wife Lillian in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Paul and Phillip Wheatley, Michael Higdon, Brad Smith, John Reynolds, Joe Pat, Sean and Micah Taylor.

Visitation will be from 4 till 8 p.m. Thursday at Hale-Polin-Robinson Funeral Home in Springfield who is in charge of arrangements.
